Brandon Weatherz: Snow for some today and tomorrow

April 2: Snow for some today and tomorrow

Daily forecast from the Storm Track Weather team

The Northland is between two systems today. The first is a weak clipper system moving into the region from Manitoba with scattered light snow and wintry mix showers filling out northern Minnesota from the northwest through the morning and afternoon with little to no accumulation. The second is a large system crossing from Missouri this morning to Michigan this morning. The track of this system has shifted a touch north since yesterday, increasing accumulation potential in Wisconsin. A Winter Storm Warning is in effect for Bayfield, Ashland, Iron, and Gogebic Co. from 7 pm Tuesday until 1 am Thursday. Price County is in a Winter Weather Advisory from 7 pm Tuesday to 7 am Wednesday.

Snow chances build across northwest Wisconsin from the south through the day. Snow will gradually taper off from the west overnight, but lake and terrain enhanced snow may linger along the South Shore near and east of the Bayfield Peninsula through Wednesday night. 1-3″ is possible along and east of a line from Solon Springs to Hayward. Amounts quickly increase moving toward a target intersecting southern Bayfield, Ashland, Iron, and Gogebic Co. where 6-9″ is possible.

Highs today will be in mid-30s for much of northern Wisconsin with the thermometer rising a bit going west with low 40s possible from Brainerd to International Falls. In the Twin Ports, an east wind will keep us in mid to upper 30s. Tonight features mid-20s to low 30s with cloudy skies and snow in Wisconsin. The ongoing snow will hold Ironwood around 32 on Wednesday, but we once again trend warmer going west with mid-40s across north Central Minnesota and low to mid-40s in the Twin Ports. Wednesday will be windy with a north wind around 20-25 mph.

Thursday will be another day with 40s in Minnesota and 30s looking east. A breezy east wind may keep lingering snow for the South Shore snowbelt, mostly in the morning. Once that finally wraps up, we’re on track for a dry stretch accompanied by a warming trend through the weekend. Widespread 50s will return by Saturday with an east wind consistently keeping shoreline communities cooler from Friday through Monday.
