The Duluth Emergency Warming Center at City Center West will be open Friday and Saturday night starting at 10 p.m. and will remain open until 6:30 a.m. the following day. The center opened for the first time Thursday night.
The North Wisconsin Rod & Gun Club is holding a fundraiser this weekend, to raise money for the ice bridge that's currently being constructed. It will go over a pressure crack that develops near the Chequamegon Bay, making water access nearly impossible. The bridge cost about $10,000, the club hopes to raise that money this weekend.
A company tied to a man who led a polygamous sect's South Dakota compound has purchased about 40 acres of land west of Grand Marais. Seth Jeffs is the brother of Warren Jeffs, imprisoned leader of the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Jeffs applied to build a 5,760-square-foot building on the Minnesota land.
After an outpouring of resident concerns, an improved measure for pedestrian safety is in now in the Itasca neighborhood in Superior. The newly installed RRFB or flashing pedestrian crossing is located at 52nd Ave. East in Itasca.
