Sabrina Ullman: Quiet day with fog tonight

December 21 forecast

Today will be cloudy with afternoon highs in the 30s.

Today will be mostly cloudy with afternoon highs in the mid-30s to low 40s and a light east-southeast wind.

Overnight lows will be in the low 30s. Fog is likely late tonight, becoming dense and widespread by morning. Fog is expected to continue through Friday and into Saturday morning.

There is a slight chance of freezing drizzle early Friday morning. Areas south of the Twin Ports will likely have light rain in the morning, with minimal, if any, accumulation. Afternoon highs will be around 40 degrees.

Saturday will be similar to Friday. All eyes are on the skies for Christmas Eve Sunday, and rain is likely to impact holiday travel. With the exception of the Arrowhead, Minnesota will likely have rain beginning in the early morning hours. This system will spread into Wisconsin by evening and linger.

With potential record-breaking warmth Sunday night and Monday, any precipitation will most likely be rain. There is a slight chance of areas in far northern Minnesota seeing a little bit of snow sneak in Christmas morning, but chances of a White Christmas are slim.

Post-holiday travel will likely be messy as a large low-pressure system sets up over Iowa and lingers into the middle of the week. This will be mostly rain, but we could see some freezing rain Monday night.
