Justin Liles: More rain, freezing rain, and high winds

A Winter Weather Advisory has been issued for portions of northern Minnesota for potential ice accumulations from a glaze to 0.20″. Most of the advisory lasts into Tuesday morning. A low-pressure system over central Iowa will continue moving northwest into southwestern MN and eastern South Dakota this evening into early Tuesday, leading to an additional areas of precipitation moving back northward into the Northland this evening and Tuesday.

Additional ice accumulations of a few hundredths up to around 0.15 inches are expected from northern Itasca County, through northern St. Louis County, and into the far northeast MN Arrowhead. Areas south of this line should see precipitation fall as rain, with additional liquid rain amounts generally ranging from 0.5″ to 1″ along and south of the Iron Range in Minnesota into northwest Wisconsin.

In addition to the rain, northeast winds will continue to increase into Tuesday, with the strongest gusts up to 35 to 45 mph along and near the shores of Lake Superior and extending southwestward toward Brainerd. Lakeshore flooding possible in Canal Park to Bayfront Festival Park. Flooding is possible late tonight through Tuesday afternoon.
