Justin Liles: Heavy snow south shore, gusty winds, and brutal cold this weekend

January 13th: A cold Saturday

A cold Saturday

We are in for an active weekend. Depending on where you live you are going to see one or multiple of these three things. We have heavy snow heading our way. Most of this snow will fall along the snowbelt. Hwy 2 and Hwy 13 will be the worst for travel as winds increase and create poor visibilities and slick conditions.

The U.P. of Michigan will see heavy snow too and they are under a Winter Storm Warning as well. The rest of the region may see a bit of snow but not like the south shore. We’ll also have high winds coming in that could blow around the snow and make for brutal wind chills.

By Saturday night into Sunday wind chill values could reach -30° to -40°F. Please remember to check on the elderly and bring the pets indoors. Between the snow, wind, and cold this is going to be frozen weekend. As we head into next week the cold air plans on staying all week. Daytime highs across the Iron Range and up to the International Border will be below zero.
