A warm stretch of weather is with us today, tomorrow, and Thursday with most areas topping off in the 80s each day. A southeast wind keeps lakeside areas cooler, then a wind shift limits Lake Superior’s influence on temperatures Wednesday and Thursday. A cooling trend begins Friday and takes us through the weekend. We have potentially severe storms to track for some today, tonight, and tomorrow, then a quieter stretch takes us Thursday into Saturday. Widespread rain chances return Saturday night and linger Sunday.

Severe thunderstorm potential for today has trended further east. A low chance for 1″ hail and 60 mph winds now reaches across northeast Minnesota to include the Twin Ports. Locally heavy rain and a slight risk for flash flooding is also worth mentioning. That round would march southeast of the Canadian border this afternoon and evening. An additional round from the west may keep severe potential going into the overnight hours.

Wednesday’s severe potential will depend on how quickly the morning rain and clouds clear, and on the precise location of a passing cold front. As of this morning, an isolated thunderstorm capable of hail and damaging winds is possible for much of the Northland in the late afternoon and evening. Heavy rain will also be possible, and flash flooding concerns would focus on areas that received excessive rain from today and tonight’s rounds.
