UWS Men’s, Women’s soccer continue reign over UMAC with conference championships

UWS Men’s, Women’ soccer teams claim UMAC titles

While it may not be a surprise anymore, the UWS Men's and Women's team have yet again won the UMAC.

The UWS Men’s soccer team won their seventh straight UMAC championship while the women won their third straight on Saturday.

For the men, all it took was one goal in the first half, as they beat Bethany Lutheran 1-0.

Bethany Lutheran beat the Yellowjackets earlier in the season by the same score, which was the Yellowjackets only conference loss.

It was Joel Thomas who provided an incredible corner kick straight to the head of Karsten Kletti for the goal.

For the women, they scored three goals in route to a 3-0 victory over Northwestern.

Niya Wilson, the all time leading goal scorer, scored two in the contest, including the first of the game to break open the tie and the last to give the Yellowjackets more insurance.

The other Yellowjackets goal was scored by Mya Holmquist off a corner kick from Lindrey Schendel.

Both Yellowjackets teams have automatically qualified for the NCAA tournament, and their opponent will be revealed Monday at 12:30 p.m. during the NCAA selection show.
