UMD’s McMahon and Van Wieren named to USA Hockey Women’s National Festival

Hockey is a sport that can be and is played year-round and some University of Minnesota Duluth women’s current and former hockey players will be skating on ice in August on the East Coast.

Current graduate forward Mannon McMahon and senior forward Clara Van Wieren were named to the 2023 USA Hockey Women’s National Festival. They will be joining forward Gabbie Hughes and defenseman Maggie Flaherty, and goaltender Maddie Rooney. The festival will take place at the Herb Brooks Arena in Lake Placid, in New York on August 7-13.

The college athletes will have the opportunity to make the U.S. Collegiate Select Team that will face off against Canada in a three-game series on August 16-19 in Lake Placid. The roster for the U.S. Under-18 Select Team and U.S. Collegiate Select Team will be named at the conclusion of camp. All series games will be streamed on usahockeytv.com.

Mcmahon set a career mark last season, posting 10 goals and 19 assists for 29 points. She was also named the bulldogs captain for the 2023-24. Van Wieren, was named a 2023-24 alternate captain for the bulldogs…she posted 22 points on nine goals and 13 assists.
