UMD men’s basketball wins opening round of NSIC tournament

The University of Minnesota Duluth (UMD) men’s basketball team moved on to the second round of the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) tournament with a 88-68 win over Minnesota State University-Mankato Tuesday.

UMD hosted a first round game for the first time since the 2019-2020 season.

Charlie Katona lead the way on the offensive side of the court for the Bulldogs with 23 points in the game. Right behind Katona was Drew Blair, who finished the match with 22 points. Matt Thompson collected eight total rebounds on the back end for the Bulldogs.

UMD advances to face Upper Iowa University in the NSIC quarterfinals Sunday at 4:30 p.m. at the Sanford Pentagon in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
