Al Shaver passes away at 96

Al Shaver, the legendary “Voice of the North Stars” passed away Monday, according to the Minnesota Wild’s post on X. He was 96.

Hubbard Broadcasting’s KSTP reports that Al Shaver came to the Twin Cities in 1967 to call North Stars games, which he did for 26 years. When the team moved to Dallas in 1993, Shaver turned to the Minnesota Gopher hockey games until he retired in 1996.

Shaver is a 10-time Minnesota Sportscaster of the Year and received numerous awards over his career. He’s also in the Minnesota Broadcasters Hall of Fame.
