Thursday was the night for the Section 7AAA girls’ basketball championship, a repeat of last year’s Section 7 AAA showdown between No. 2 Cloquet Lumberjacks and No. 1 Grand Rapid Thuderhawks.

The Thuderhawks had the lead towards the end of the first half and continued that into the second half, going on to win 59-43.

Head Coach Kris Hamling expressed how it felt winning and seeing all the hard work that her team has put into the season all paid off.

“It’s really great, I just have a really good group of girls to work with. They’re just amazing, they’ve been with me for many years. I got to coach with them as a youth, got to see them come up, and got to have great coaches with them as well. So, you know, six wonderful seniors that I go to see mature, it’s been awesome. I’m really proud of them and they worked really hard tonight to get this win.”

Grand Rapids will now be making its way to the state tournament starting on March 15th.
