Ely volleyball drops first game to Mayer Lutheran in Class A quarterfinals

Entering Thursday, Ely boased a perfect 29-0 record entering their first-ever state tournament appearance, facing off against No. 2 Mayer Lutheran.

In set two, down one point, Hannah Penke ties it at 24. Ely would take on two more points in the second set and win set two 26-24. Ely gave it all they could, but in the end, Mayer Lutheran wins the final two sets 25-12 and 25-11.

Ely falls three sets to one to now sit at 29-1. They will play Pine River-Backus Friday at 3 pm in the first round of the Consolation bracket.
