More sled dog racing, this time in Iron River

If you haven’t reached your fill of sled dog racing after following the John Beargrease Marathon, then Iron River, Wisconsin is the place to be on Saturday, February 18. It’s the 5th annual Northern Pines Sled Dog Race at the Northern Pines Golf Course, 69420 Airport Road.

Organizers say the event features over 50 mushers in four different classes and runs through the golf course entering the Bayfield County Trail system and the Tri-County Corridor.

  • 8:45am = MID-DISTANCE
  • 10:00am = OPEN CLASS
  • 12:45pm = 4 DOG EVENT
  • 2:15pm = 6 DOG EVENT

This year, there are several new events including a Weight Pull at 9:30 a.m. and a Kids Fun Mutt Run at 1:30 p.m.

The event is free to come and watch and there are some great vantage points on the event center grounds as well as on the trail route. Spectators can warm up in the heated viewing area as well as enjoy food and drinks. Organizers will have a 50/50 raffle as well as other vendors on site.
