Veterans fishing at Lake Superior

On Saturday July 22, veterans from Wisconsin and Minnesota were treated to a fun fishing adventure on Lake Superior courtesy The Western Lake Superior Trollers Association.

The annual event is called “Vets on the Lake”, it started a few years ago with about twenty participants but has now grown to attract more than a hundred this year.

President of the association Jim Vanlandschort said the idea came when he was talking to some of his friends on how they could help give back to those who defend and protect our nation.

One of the participants we spoke to, Steve Samuelson had this to say – “We get assigned a captain of our boat. That captain takes us out on the big lake, something that a lot of us veterans have never really done before. We’ve seen the lake but never been out there. It is a lot of fun to be able to enjoy that.”

There were over forty boats at this year’s event all from volunteers, and veterans got to take all the fish caught home.
