The Dragon boats are back

Dragons are being seen around Superior.

But don’t worry, it’s only because the dragon boats are back. 50 dragon boat teams are now signed up to compete in the 20th annual dragon boat festival fundraiser.

The Rotary club of Superior and the Skyline Rotary clubs are putting on the festival this year. Organizers say, if you are looking for a fun time, for an important cause, this will be both.

“Friday night is the opening ceremony,” Kelly Peterson said with a smile. “We have all the teams come and introduce themselves. We have a food vendors and beer and we have live music. We’ll have Big Wave Dave and the Ripples and we’ll have the Mack Brothers under the tent for the party. And we’re really excited to have some Canadian teams come down so just like the old days.”

All funds raised this year will go to 23rd veteran, a local organization that helps military veterans. All events will again be at Barkers Island in Superior.

It’s not for a couple weeks yet, opening ceremoneis are on Friday, August 25th, then Saturday the 26th is race day.

Food, drinks, kids games, live music, a free fun family day, and oh yes — lots of paddling.
