While folks scramble for the best deals on Black Friday, several Superior shops prepare discounts and deals for customers. The Superior Business Improvement District is hosting their Shop Small Superior Week, to help support locally owned stores.

Nearly 40 different businesses in Superior are handing out punch cards to customers this week. After making a purchase from five different stores, getting their cards punched or initialed, they’re entered in a drawing to win prizes.

Colleen Lampton, the owner of Weeping Willow Gifts, said they’ll have a local author for a book signing this weekend.

“We have Lake Superior Spice sampling that we’re going to do,” Lampton said. “We have 25% off all of our clothing throughout the entire store. Also we have buy one, get one free on all of our Halloween and fall merchandise and then other merchandise throughout the store.”

When it comes to small businesses, the Superior Business Improvement District is anything but small. With a variety of unique stores, everyone can find something for them. Jon Fritsche, the owner of Globe News said they have a special deal with comics this weekend.

“Globe News has just about something for everybody,” Fritsche said. “It has for a very long time, so you never really know what you’re going to find. If you’re really big into anything In regards to music, comics, or trading card games. We have a really neat promotion going on where we have a bag specifically to fit comic books. Anything that you can put in the bag, you get 10% off on whether it’s a dollar or $100.”

Small Business Saturday also plays a key role for businesses looking to expand their operations and spaces in the future. Paul and Gina Ramsey, the Co-Owners of Superior Ceramic Coatings, have plans to further their business goals with more projects.

“We’re in the newer, bigger space now. We used to be in a smaller, much smaller space. So we have a lot more room to handle bigger projects,” Gina Ramsey said. “We are personally offering $10 off coupons to anyone who comes in and would like to pick up a coupon. And we’re also going to do a drawing for a $25 gifts gift certificate as well.”

Of course when it comes to small businesses, working with other stores is imperative with making connections throughout the community. Carolyn Nelson-Kavajecz, the owner of Sterling Silver Studio, said many parents of the young dancers, are also small business owners.

“Sterling Silver Studio has all sorts of deals and things going on. Tomorrow we have a dance retail boutique and everything will be on sale,” Nelson-Kavajecz said. “But one of the other things we have going on with Small Business Saturday is we really want to thank the small business owners who bring their children here to Sterling Silver and support our organization all year long. Many of our small business owner parents are going to be setting up tables with displays and information on their businesses tomorrow and of course, selling their products. So there will be a wide variety of things that people can come in and shop for. And it’s just our way of giving back and helping to support the small business owners who also support us.”
