St. Louis County offers their first Citizens’ Police Academy

The St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office is hosting its first ever Citizens’ Academy. This is a 10-week course to offer citizens an inside look at local law enforcement. They’ll cover things like patrolling, k-9’s, the violent crimes task force, jail operations, and the child abduction response team.

Applications are open now. The Academy starts November 1st and goes from 6:30 to 8:30 on Wednesday evenings.

This session is in Duluth at the Public Safety Building, (2030 Arlington Avenue), with some sessions taking place at the St. Louis County Jail and Emergency Operations Center for tours. They plan to offer another session in the northern part of the county in 2024.

Any St. Louis County resident ages 18 or older may apply. Applicants will be required to pass a criminal background check. The deadline to apply is October 25, 2023.
