Ryan Ewald Memorial Toy Drive continues to spread joy to kids during the holidays

Keeping the mission of the Ryan Ewald Memorial Toy Drive

The Ryan Ewald Memorial Toy Drive has brought thousands of dollars worth of toys to the Salvation Army in Duluth.

Another big moment for the friends and family of Ryan Ewald. They delivered over $10,000 dollars worth of toys to the Salvation Army in Duluth on Thursday.

Ewald was an airman with the 148th Fighter Wing who died in 2013 in an ATV accident. Before that, he started a toy drive. And so loved ones continued that effort with the Ryan Ewald Memorial Toy Drive at the base.

His daughters, Kayla and Emma, are happy to help load up the toys at the base, and bring them to the Salvation Army.

Kayla told us, “I love bringing the toys in.”

Her sister, Emma, chimed in, “It feels amazing that people have the heart to do this.”

A focus this year was on gifts for teens, since those can be hard to come by.

“We had another very successful year,” shared Chief Master Sgt. Ryan Gigliotti. “We are very happy with the drive.”

The toys will be distributed next week.

Salvation Army leaders say the need keeps growing, and they need the community to step up and donate big time to the red kettles.
