One dead following crash in Itasca County

Around 4:30am on Saturday, authorities in Itasca County responded to reports of a vehicle crash on Highway 169 near Calumet.

Upon arrival, crews learned that a semi-truck was traveling southbound Highway 169.

An Oldsmobile was heading northbound on 169 when it entered the southbound traffic lane, leading to a head-on crash collision. Both vehicles came to rest in the south ditch.

The driver of the Oldsmobile, a 20-year-old man from Hibbing, died in the accident. He’s been identified as Levi Charles Greenwood.

The driver of the semi-truck, a 51-year-old man from Grand Rapids, was transferred to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The Minnesota State Patrol, the Itasca County Sheriff’s Office, Greenway Fire and Nashwuak ambulance all assisted in the accident.
