Milestone year for the Mitten Mile at Mesabi East

25th anniversary of the Mitten Mile at Mesabi East

Mesabi East students enjoyed the Mitten Mile ahead of holiday break.

In its 25th year, the Mitten Mile at Mesabi East was another resounding success.

Kids enjoyed the rather mild temperatures as they ran the mile in their mittens.

“A former physical education teacher started it 25 years ago, When she retired, we thought we should keep it going in her honor,” shared David Hillman, a teacher at Mesabi East.

Parents enjoyed being part of the fun as well.

Ana Rooda said, “I think it’s an amazing activity to get to do with your kids, outside in the winter, and gets them excite to be outside.”

Thursday was the Giants last day before break. The mild weather meant they didn’t have to plow or worry about icy spots.
