Laura Marquardt will lead DPD during search for new chief

Duluth Police Deputy Chief Laura Marquardt will serve as the department’s interim chief during the search for Chief Mike Tusken’s replacement.

Marquardt has been with the DPD for 27 years. Most recently, she has overseen the Administrative Division.

She will be the first woman to lead the Duluth Police Department.

"This department is overflowing with talented and dedicated individuals who serve our community every single day," Marquardt said in a statement. "I am now humbled and excited to lead DPD in the way in which we are known: with compassion, trust, and respect for all who call Duluth home."

She will take over on an interim basis starting Aug. 1. The posting for the job is open until July 31.
