Crews battle Wildland fire on Wisconsin Point

Around 4:30 pm Thursday afternoon, multiple Superior Fire Department units responded for a report of a Wildland fire in the area of Moccasin Mike Rd and Lake Shore Dr.  Fire crews arrived on scene and reported a sizable, wind driven fire on the beach area between Schafer Beach and Wisconsin Point Lot #1.  Fire crews utilized bladder packs, hand tools and a side-by-side UTV with wildland firefighting capabilities to extinguish the fire. The remote location, limited access and the winds were a challenge to firefighting efforts. Fire crews were on scene for several hours and the size of the affected area is estimated at ¾ of an acre. The cause of the fire is under investigation and no injuries were reported.

The Superior Fire Department would like to remind people that if you are out enjoying a recreational campfire to be mindful of the current weather conditions and to completely extinguish the fire before leaving the area.
