Home destroyed by fire in Corona Township Tuesday

Firefighters in Carlton County battled a structure fire on the 4100 block of County Road 4 in Corona Township on Tuesday. According to the Carlton County Sheriff’s Office, a call came in regarding the fire at 12:28 p.m. When deputies arrived they found a shed on fire. The fire quickly spread to the nearby home.

Carlton County Sheriff’s Deputies responded learned the homeowner was using an outside wood stove that was near the shed that had caught fire.

Officials say the home and its contents are a total loss. There were no injuries, however the family cat may have perished in the fire. The American Red Cross was called to assist the homeowner.

The Mahtowa Fire Department was assisted by the Carlton Fire Department, Wrenshall Fire Department, Moose Lake Fire Department, Blackhoof Fire Department, Barnum Fire Department, Cromwell Fire Department, DNR and Lake Country Power.

The Carlton County Sheriff says the fire is not considered suspicious, although an investigation is underway.
