Hibbing fire suspected to be arson

UPDATE: Monday night’s fire in Hibbing is suspected to be a result of arson. The Minnesota Fire Marshal Office and the Acting Hibbing Fire Marshal have posted a sign for the Arson Hotline on the apartment building on the 2300 block of 7th Avenue East.

If anyone has information on the fire, they are advised to call the Arson Hotline at 1-800-723-2020. There are rewards of up to $5,000 for information leading to the identification of persons responsible for this fire.

ORIGINAL: Just before 11:00 P.M. Monday night, a fire was reported at the 2300 block of 7th Avenue East in Hibbing.

According to the Northland FireWire, the fire was contained to the basement, however there is smoke damage throughout the building.

There are no injuries reported. All the occupants in the building were able to get out safely.

Hibbing, Chisholm, Keewatin, Virginia, Nashwauk, and Cherry fire departments responded to the scene.

The American Red Cross is assisting those who were displaced by the fire.

The exact cause of the fire is under investigation.
