Virginia man charged in Friday’s burglary and barricade situation

53-year-old Mark Louis Williams is facing charges following last weeks burglary and barricade situation in Virginia. This includes- Burglary in the First Degree, Threats of Violence, and Obstructing Legal Process.

Police in Virginia received a burglary call on Friday morning, and they responded to a home on the 300 block of 1st Street North around 10am.

The reporting party told dispatch that an unknown person was barricaded in the basement and garage area.

Law enforcement says Williams was inside at the time, blockading the doors to prevent entry as he refused to come out.

According to police, Williams sprayed a fire extinguisher, threw other objects, and lit a piece of cardboard on fire, telling officers that the whole building would blow up if they came any closer.

As officers got to Williams, the complaint says he had a knife in his hand began fighting with officers. They used less than lethal munitions, and other methods like a taser and a K-9.

A deputy and three officers had minor injuries.

Williams was treated and released from the hospital for minor injuries.
