Hastings police fatally shoot dog attacking mother, daughter

Hastings officers fatally shot a dog Tuesday evening after a girl reported a dog was attacking her mother, Hastings Police Chief David Wilske says.

According to Hubbard Broadcasting affiliate KSTP, police say they went to a home on the 1300 block of North Frontage Road after the girl called around 5:30 p.m. Tuesday.

When officers arrived, the girl appeared panicked to police as she spoke to them from an upstairs window. Police say they then entered by force through the front door.

Police say they then shot the dog in the entryway, an action they add likely saved the woman’s life. The dog died in the home and will be examined at the University of Minnesota Veterinary Medical Center.

Both the mother and daughter were taken to Regions Hospital for unspecified injuries from the attack. No one else was hurt.

According to police, early information shows the woman was the dog’s owner. No one else was in the home.

The Dakota County Sheriff’s Office is investigating. No other information was immediately available.
