New YMCA partnership offers free childcare for students

Duluth Adult Education (DAE) and the Downtown Duluth YMCA are working together to offer free childcare for DAE students.

Duluth Adult Education (DAE) and the Downtown Duluth YMCA are working together to offer free childcare for DAE students.

DAE offers a free GED Prep Program at 325 W. 1st St. where adults work with a teacher one on one to create a custom plan towards success. They offer in-person and online options during the day and in the evenings for students to study. DAE believes every student has a path to success. Students register on their website.

Childcare is available at the Downtown Duluth Y for students working towards their GED with DAE. This service is available Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Students can drop off their children at the St. Luke’s Kid’s Club inside the Y, and then attend classes at DAE on the same block.

After class, the student’s teacher will give them a voucher to be validated at the DAE front desk. They they can head to the Y Downtown Duluth Y to pick up their children and turn in their voucher. Children must be picked up by 1 p.m. and if a student does not have a validated voucher, they will need to pay $5.72 per child.
