Medical students make holiday donation to kids at St. Luke’s

Medical Students Donate to St. Luke’s

Medical students and staff with the University of Minnesota Medical School Duluth Campus made a donation of holiday gift bags to St. Luke’s Wednesday afternoon.

The gift bags include activity books, coloring supplies, pillow cases, and more and will be distributed to children who have to stay at the hospital during the holidays.

“I think as future physicians it’s really important that we engage in the community and support the youth especially when it relates to those medical contexts and making sure that we’re providing spaces for youth to feel comfortable when they’re receiving  medical care,” explained Marijane Evans, Co-President of the Pediatric Interest Group.

Evans said that the pillowcases were inspired by a suggestion they got when they donated activity kits for Halloween last.  She was told the cases really helped to make the rooms feel more fun during a child’s stay at the hospital.
