An Air Quality Alert remains in effect for northern and central Minnesota until 6 pm Monday as wildfire smoke lingers in the region. The Air Quality Index has been red in some areas today, which is unhealthy for everyone. It is recommended to limit time outdoors if able.

Additionally, skies will continue to have a hazy appearance, and the smell of wildfire smoke may persist for portions of the Northland. We will see the wildfire smoke gradually clear from west to east Monday.

Scattered showers are possible tonight as well as Monday afternoon. There may be a few rumbles of thunder tonight, but no severe weather is expected.

As for Monday, there is a risk of isolated severe thunderstorms for northern Wisconsin, the southern portion of St. Louis County, and Carlton, Pine, and Aitkin Counties. Hail up to an inch and winds of 60 mph could occur in the 4 pm to midnight timeframe.

The main focus this week will be the incoming heat. Temperatures will be in the eighties and nineties Monday-Thursday. With dew points in the sixties to near 70, the heat index will approach 100 degrees for our southern counties on Wednesday.
