Our Friday features strong winds and scattered showers, particularly in east central Minnesota and northwest Wisconsin. Wave height on Lake Superior is lower than previously forecast with waves of 7 to 10 feet now expected in the Twin Ports today, allowing the Lakeshore Flood Watch to expire. We will still see gales and rolling waves, but the flooding concern has fortunately improved. An east northeast wind will be a contender with sustained strength around 20 mph and gusts up to 40 mph.

Rain accumulation has shifted slightly to the south with the potential for 1” or more brushing the southern edge of Pine, Burnett, Washburn, and Sawyer counties. 0.5” potential reaches about as far north as a line from Hayward to Brainerd. Around 0.1” is then expected for the Twin Ports, South Shore, and reaching up the North Shore. The Iron Range and north should stay dry. Temperatures hold rather steady, especially in the Twin Ports. We start off with most of the Northland in the 40s and top off in mid-40s to low 50s looking from south to north.

Widespread rain exits to the south overnight with light lake effect rain lingering. These showers will be found near the Head of Lake Superior Saturday morning, then move eastward along the South Shore through the day as winds become more northerly. Any additional accumulation would remain light. Winds won’t be as intense on Saturday, but it’ll still be breezy. Highs will be in mid-40s to low 50s. Sunday brings a return of widespread 50s and sunshine. A quiet and seasonable stretch will then be with us through the start of next week.
