Brandon Weatherz: Warmer weather ahead

An overnight round of showers and thunderstorms brought locally heavy rainfall leading to a Flood Advisory at the intersection of Aitkin, Pine, and Carlton Counties. That expired at 7:30am, but it serves as a reminder that similar localized heavy rain is possible in the additional rounds of rain in the forecast through Saturday.
The early morning round has wrapped up and the rest of our Tuesday will be generally dry. Shower and thunderstorm chances return this evening from central Minnesota. This will bring another overnight round of rain that may fall heavily at times. Rain tapers off from west to east Wednesday morning. Isolated thunderstorms return in the afternoon, mostly west of the Twin Ports. Occasional showers will remain possible Thursday through Saturday night, making for a potentially wet Minnesota Fishing Opener. Sunday should be drier.
Temperatures will be warm the rest of the week. Winds are weaker and out of the southeast today, limiting Lake Superior’s influence. You can still expect much cooler conditions immediately by the lake, but the Duluth International Airport will rise into the 60s today through Thursday while 70s become common for inland communities. A stronger lake wind will return Friday, then even areas out of the reach of Lake Superior fall into 50s and 60s Saturday.
