Brandon Weatherz: Gloom lingers today

The gloom from the weekend has carried into the start of our workweek. Allow time to drive slow and use headlights as areas of fog prove to be stubborn. Fog has been the most widespread this morning, but expect some fog to linger through the day. Dense fog becomes more widespread this evening and overnight. Tuesday’s morning commute may be another foggy one, then we should finally see some improvement to visibility Tuesday afternoon.

Occasional showers and isolated thunderstorms linger in the Northland today and tonight into Tuesday morning. High pressure taking residence over the Great Lakes will bring drier air that allows for a brief break from the rain Tuesday afternoon. Rain showers return Tuesday night, then Wednesday should be generally clear with a low chance lingering. Another stretch of days with rain chances begins Thursday and takes us through Minnesota Fishing Opener weekend.

For temperatures, today will continue to be much cooler around Lake Superior with tens staying in the 40s. Highs inland range from mid-50s to mid-60s. The east wind is the strongest today. Lake influence will gradually weaken tomorrow and Wednesday as temps trend warmer. By Wednesday, everywhere away from Lake Superior will be in the 70s. 70s remain for inland communities Thursday and Friday, but a breezy easy wind will once again develop.

Tomorrow: Fog and a few showers in the morning, then mostly cloudy. High 60. SE wind 5-10 mph. Chance of rain: 20%

Tomorrow night: Cloudy with showers. Low 43. E wind 2-8 mph. Chance of rain: 50%.

Wednesday: Morning clouds with a few showers possible, then partly cloudy in the afternoon. High 66. SE wind 5-10 mph. Chance of rain: 20%.

Thursday: Mostly cloudy with a chance for showers in the afternoon. High 68. SE wind 5-10 mph. Chance of rain: 30%

Friday: Cloudy and breezy with a chance for showers. High 62. E wind 10-15 mph. Chance of rain: 30%
