Thursday night University of Minnesota Duluth’s (UMD) Cailee Peterson came out with a bang in her NCAA Division II Outdoor Track and Field championships debut.

The graduate student won her heat in the 1500 meter, securing herself a spot in Saturday’s championship race.

“Yesterday could have been my last race as a prelim, but being able to make it through and know that tomorrow is my last shot and I just have to give all I’ve got. It’s a fun and unique feeling, and I’m excited for it,” said Peterson.

Peterson’s prelim time of 4:32.85 lands her the seventh seed heading into the finals.

The 1500 meter championship race is set for Saturday at 6:35 p.m. in Pueblo, Colorado. For more race information, Click Here.
