Alex Sapp
Multimedia Journalist/Weekend Anchor
Alex Sapp joined WDIO in the summer of 2024, where he works as a weekend anchor, as well as a reporter during the week.
A Minnesota native, Alex was born in Minneapolis and raised in the suburbs. He is a relative newcomer to Duluth. “I’d visited a few times and really enjoyed the area,” Alex explains, “so I was super excited to get a chance to pursue my career here.”
Alex attended Minnesota State University Moorhead where he served as an anchor for two seasons on their award-winning news program Campus News. He earned a bachelor’s degree in Broadcast Journalism, with a minor in still photojournalism. Prior to this, he attended Anoka Ramsey Community College where he graduated with an associate’s degree in mass communication. Alex also holds a welding diploma from Anoka Technical College.
Alex has many interests, especially cars and motorcycles. Visitors to the newsroom will find Alex’s desk lined with toy cars. His other interests include books, football, and basketball; he’s an avid fan of the Minnesota Vikings and Minnesota Timberwolves.
When not working at WDIO, Alex spends most of his free time either reading or spending time working on or riding his motorcycle.
