Recall: Possible Listeria contamination of specific frozen fruit

There is a voluntary recall of some frozen fruit products sold at Walmart, Target and other stores due to possible contamination with Listeria monocytogenes. The recall comes from SunOpta Inc’s subsidiary, Sunrise Growers Inc. and the Food and Drug Administration. The company says the specific frozen fruit products are linked to pineapple provided by a third-party supplier.

No illnesses have yet to be reported with this voluntary recall.

Listeria monocytogenes can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Although healthy people may suffer only short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea, listeria infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women. Any consumers concerned about an illness should contact a physician.
