Search continues for Nevaeh Kingbird, as MMIWG Day is Sunday

As Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women & Girls (MMIWG) Day approaches, the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) and the Bemidji Police Department is bringing attention to the search for 17-year-old Nevaeh Kingbird.

Nevaeh was only 15 years old when she went missing from her home in Bemidji, Minnesota on October 22, 2021. Nevaeh is described as 5’4″ tall and 120 lbs. when she was last seen. She has brown eyes and brown hair. Authorities believe that Nevaeh may have traveled out of the state.

Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women & Girls (MMIWG) Day ia May 5 and it raises awareness for the girls who have gone missing within the Native, Indigenous, and Tribal communities. NCMEC not only wants to shine a light on Nevaeh’s case, but keep the focus on all the Indigenous girls who are missing.

The Bemidji Police Department has been working hard to find Nevaeh and on Friday, May 3, they shared this statement:

The Bemidji Police Department, along with our partner agencies which include the Missing and Murdered Indigenous Relatives (MMIR), Missing and Murdered Indigenous People (MMIP), The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC), The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA), The Bureau of Indian Affairs, and many more, continue in to work diligently to find Nevaeh Kingbird. May 5th is recognized as Missing and Murdered Indigenous Woman and Girls Day (MMIWG). The Bemidji Police Department wants to take this opportunity to show our support for those with a missing loved one. While these cases weigh heavily on our minds, we know it doesn’t compare to what family and loved ones go through on a day-to-day basis. We stand with you all during these times and want you to know we will continue to work diligently to find Nevaeh.
