John Larson, has always planned on attending UMD, because he sees his father Bob Larson as a role model. Even though John was accepted at other schools he chose UMD, because his father graduated there 50 years ago.

When asked why UMD John Larson said he always loved the Northland community. “I have always wanted to go to UMD I have been coming up to Duluth my whole life and my dad went here 50 years year ago.” John Larson said. “He’s the one that got me motivated to do this. And my friends always want to do this and now we’re graduating today, so it’s awesome.”

However, during John Larson’s college career, Covid-19 impacted his studies, but he persevered with help from his friends and family. “It cut our freshman year and a half, so we moved online and me and my roommates already signed the lease on the house.” John Larson said. “The sophomore year we got through that experience together. So it was a life adjustment, but I think we all did good stuff.”
