I-35 to close overnight through Twin Ports Interchange

I-35 will be closed in both directions starting at 9:00 p.m. tonight for work on the Twin Ports Interchange project. According to the Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT), I-35 will reopen to traffic at 5:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 25.

MnDOT says workers will be pouring the bridge deck over I-35. This work was originally scheduled to begin Thursday, July 20.

Detours will be in place.

  • Northbound traffic will detour following the Highway 2 Bong Bridge into Superior, then travel I-535 back into Duluth.
  • Southbound traffic will exit at 5th Avenue West and Lake Avenue to follow along city streets.

MnDOT says southbound I-35 traffic will be in two-way, single lane configuration on Tuesday, July 25, through Friday, July 28.
