Fire destroys home in Solway Township on Friday

A fire on Friday in Solway Township destroyed a home. According to the St. Louis County Sheriff’s office, first responders received a call about a structure fire in the 3900 block of Crosby Road just after 4:00 p.m. on June 23. When crews arrived, they found the home fully engulfed.

Authorities determined no one was inside the house at the time of the fire.

The building is a complete loss with estimated value of $100,000 for the structure and $70,000 for contents. The Red Cross is assisting the property owner.

The Minnesota State Fire Marshal’s Office will be investigating the cause of the fire. According to the Sheriff’s office, there was a lighting storm occurring in the area at the time of the fire. Official reports are the fire did not appear suspicious in nature.

The Solway, Grand Lake, Cloquet Area, Esko, Proctor Fire Departments responded along with Lake Country Power.
