One person dead after train crashes into vehicle in Sawyer Township

At 4:32 a.m. on September 9, the Carlton County Sheriff’s Office received a report of an accident involving a vehicle and train.

The fatal accident occurred at the intersection of Lammi Road and Highway 210 located in Sawyer Township. There were no other occupants in the car.

The driver of the vehicle was driving south on Lammi Road and was struck by the train. The Burlington Northern Santa Fe (BNSF) train was traveling west bound parallel with Highway 210. It struck the vehicle’s broadside.

The driver was pronounced dead at the scene and has been identified as 23-year-old Brock Hascall of Wright, Minnesota.

The Carlton County Sheriff’s Office says that this is an ongoing investigation.
