Duluth Police: Mental health crisis closes portion of Superior Street

The crisis that compelled Duluth Police to shut down part of a busy Superior street this afternoon has ended tragically.

Duluth Police were called around noon to the Holiday Inn ramp in the 200 block of West Superior Street in downtown Duluth for a man having a mental health crisis.

A crisis negotiation team tried to help the man for several hours. But in the end they could not prevent the man from attempting suicide. The man was rushed to the hospital but ultimately did not survive. Police are not releasing the man’s name at this time as they are working to communicate with his family.

Police add that their thoughts and prayers go out to the individuals family and friends.
