Crews battle basement fire in Eveleth apartment

On Sunday evening at around 8:50 pm, an apartment fire was reported in Eveleth.
Eveleth, Fayal, Virginia, Mountain Iron, and Gilbert Fire Departments all responded to the scene on the 700 block of Garfield Street.
According to the Northland FireWire, the fire was mostly contained to the basement, but the two-story structure has smoke damage. As many as a dozen cats perished in the fire.
No injuries were reported, and everyone is believed to have evacuated safely. Three people live in the building and have been displaced. American Red Cross is assisting those displaced.
