On Thursday morning the University of Minnesota Duluth (UMD) women’s hockey team hit the ice for one final practice ahead of the NCAA Frozen Four at Pegula Ice Arena in Pennsylvania.

WDIO will be providing live updates from the tournament throughout the Bulldogs’ run.

Friday’s semifinal game against Northeastern, will mark the first time the UMD Women will appear in back-to-back Frozen Fours under seven-year head coach Maura Crowell.

“It is great to be back-to-back and I think it speaks volumes to the players in our program, and our culture and where our program is,” Coach Crowell said. “In terms of being back again; I think this year feels different.”

It’s a show of overall program excellence as the Bulldog men will skate into the National Collegiate Hockey Conference (NCHC) Frozen Face off semifinals also on Friday. They’ll battle the University of Denver at 4pm at the Xcel Energy Center.

“It’s awesome, I am happy for them to so it’ll be great if they can get a couple wins there,” UMD fifth year forward Koby Bender said.

The UMD women (26-11-1) will battle Northeastern (31-4-2) for a NCAA championship berth Friday at 2:30pm CT.
