This week Golden Valley, Minnesota native Boye Mafe could have a dream come true hearing his name called in the 2022 NFL Draft.
The former University of Minnesota Gopher defensive end is predicted to go late in the first round that kicks off this Thursday, or early in the second round on Friday.
"It’s a surreal moment honesty," Mafe told Twin Cities affiliate KSTP. "I don’t think it’s necessarily hit me as hard as it will maybe when I’m drafted, or whenever that call comes, but I know it’s going to be a surreal moment. Everyone is telling me it’s euphoric and just enjoy the moment when it comes."
Mafe added, "honestly I can’t wait for it, we’ll just see what happens."
In 12 games last fall he recorded 34 tackles, seven tackles for a loss, and 7.5 sacks for the Gophers.
Currently he’s being seen as a first round prospect for the Arizona Cardinals (23) or Kansas City Chiefs (30), or possibly a second round pick for the New York Jets (35).
The 2022 NFL Draft will begin on Thursday at 7 p.m. on WDIO.
