Former University of Minnesota Duluth (UMD) and College of St. Scholastica (CSS) men’s hockey player Brenden Kotyk is now officially a head coach.

On Wednesday the ECHL’s South Carolina Stingrays removed the interim title locking in Kotyk as their 11th bench boss in program history. They are the affiliate to the NHL’s Washington Capitals.

He took over the interim role on March 7th leading the team to a 10-8 record to close out the 2021-2022 season. The 30-year-old joined the program as an assistant coach in the 2020-2021 season.

Kotyk spent one season at CSS then went to UMD helping them to the 2017 NCAA Frozen Four and championship game, before playing professionally for three seasons in the ECHL and AHL.
