After a successful Section 7 Alpine meet showing on Tuesday, Duluth East kept rolling on Wednesday sweeping the Section 7 Nordic ski meet at Giants Ridge.

Brand new this year was the sprint finals consisting of a 5.2K overall course with 1.3K laps. Teams consisted of two members with each person racing two laps a piece.

A pair of sophomore Greyhounds would be the first to nab the new section sprint title as Carl Morse and James Kyes crossed the finish line first with a time of 16:16

"Proud of our school, got a lot of school spirit so cool that we can prove to the state that Duluth East got it," Morse and Kyes said after their win.

Duluth East had released the Hounds as their own Rowan Bixler and Liesl Cope-Schaeffer would take home the girls sprint championship finishing at 18:45.

"It brings more depth to the team since we have so many good people out there on our team," Schaeffer said. "It’s pretty exciting because I think this is something they’re going to do for years and years," Bixler added.

East continued to dominate in the 5K freestyle pursuit as Oliver Miatke took first place with a combined time final time of 32:49. In the girls event it was a flip of last season as Greyhound Lily Brown took first with a combined overall result of 35:53, while Proctor/Hermantown’s Della Bettendorf finished second.

Duluth East swept as a team, taking first in both the boys and girls divisions. Ely placed second as a team for the girls and Proctor/Hermantown finished second for the boys.

The top two teams and the next four individuals in the pursuit, and the top two teams and next fastest team in the sprint, will advance to next week’s state meets. The 5K boys and girls classic will be held on Wednesday while the sprint and pursuit races will take place Thursday at Giants Ridge.
