Duluth East Alpine Ski team’s advance to state after section 7 meet

After finishing ninth for Duluth East in the section alpine meet last season, Lauren Carlson returned today hungry for more. Fresh off a 7th place finish in this weekend’s Atmore memorial race.

On the girls side, Lauren Carlson placed first overall across the board with a time of 1:17.72.

Fellow Greyhound Veronica McHenry was second at 1:21.20.

While Cook County Silver Bay’s, Kalina Dimitrova finished 4th with a time of 1:21.68.

"We were all pretty nervous today because the girls have made it the past two years qualified as a team, and the boys qualified last year, so everyone was nervous this morning. We are in the clear, we all skied well, and we are out here cheering each other on. It’s been a great day so far," said Lauren Carlson.

On the boys side fellow Greyhound Carter Hegg placed second behind White Bear Lake by just .02 seconds, with a time of 1:17.78.

His team mate Wyatt Shultz was behind him in third, with a time of 1:17.89.

While Cook County Silver Bay’s, Ray Dressley ended in fourth at 1:18.21.

"The past four years we have been skiing together since we were freshman. So we always have that connection, and this year we have three seniors that are leaving us and this is the final year to go for it. We did it we pulled through," claimed Carter Hegg.

Duluth East would sweep the section meet as both teams clinch state berths, along with the top ten individuals.
