Dozens of sheep die in Carlton County fire
Dozens of sheep were killed in a fire Wednesday afternoon in Carlton County.
The sheriff’s office says a 911 caller reported the fire in a Thomson Township pole building at 12:26 p.m. The Esko, Wrenshall, Carlton, and Cloquet fire departments responded to the scene, but the fire fully engulfed the building.
The property owner was not home at the time of the fire. The owner reported that there were about 70 sheep inside the building that died as a result of the fire.
The sheriff’s office says the cause of the fire is not yet known, but it is not considered suspicous.
Lake Country Power Cooperative and Thomson Township Public Works assisted the fire departments and law enforcement at the scene.
