The Wisconsin Lottery says a $1 million winning ticket in the Monday, Jan. 17, Powerball drawing was sold in Spooner.

The ticket sold at Spooner Marathon, 730 South River Street, matched five of five numbers but missed the Powerball. Lottery officials did not say if the winner has come forward.

Spooner Marathon Store Manager Tiffany Nutt was quoted in a news release as saying that lottery tickets are popular in the store.

"I hope the winner is someone who really needs it," Nutt said.

The store will receive $20,000 for having sold the winning ticket.

Lottery officials said it is the first time a million-dollar winning ticket has been sold for a Monday drawing in Wisconsin since Powerball added Monday drawings last August. Drawings are also held on Wednesdays and Saturdays.
