Sabrina Ullman: What season is it anyway?

Variety of weather ahead Feb 25

Record highs are possible Monday, and snow is likely Tuesday.

We are in for another roller coaster of a week as Mother Nature cannot seem to figure out that is February in the Northland.

Tonight will have increasing clouds and overnight lows in the teens near the international border and in the 20s elsewhere. A few light snow showers are possible for the far northern portion of Minnesota late tonight into early Monday.

We warm up significantly Monday with afternoon highs mostly in the 50s. The North Shore portion of Lake and Cook Counties will stay in the 40s, but portions of Pine, Burnett, and Washburn Counties could reach 60 degrees.

To put this in perspective, these are typically temperatures we see in late April. Record highs are possible Monday.

Old Man Winter has been benched for most of the season but will make an appearance mid-week. A cold front moving through Monday night will bring a return of snow chances late Monday night through Wednesday morning.

Snowfall accumulations will be mostly under three inches, but we will see higher amounts in Koochiching County and northern St. Louis County as well as along the South Shore Snow Belt. The latter will likely have lingering lake-effect snow Wednesday afternoon while the rest of the Northland clears by noon.
